Fetal & Maternal Medicine

Overview

Fetal medicine is Dr. Anwari’s subspecialty — the field she trained in at University College London, the University of Barcelona and King’s College London. Using detailed, high-resolution ultrasound she assesses your baby’s development, screens for and diagnoses fetal conditions early, and provides clear genetic counseling. Whether your pregnancy is routine or complex, you benefit from expert scanning and interpretation by a certified maternal-fetal medicine specialist.

Reasons for consultation

  • A detailed anomaly scan or fetal wellbeing assessment
  • Nuchal translucency (NT) scan and first-trimester screening
  • Fetal echocardiography to check your baby’s heart
  • A suspected or diagnosed fetal abnormality
  • A family history of hereditary or genetic conditions
  • Advice on amniocentesis, CVS or genetic risk

Our care approach

  • High-resolution ultrasound performed by the subspecialist herself
  • FMF-certified anomaly, NT and growth scanning
  • Fetal echocardiography and Doppler blood-flow studies
  • Diagnostic tests (amniocentesis, CVS) when clinically indicated
  • Clear, compassionate genetic counseling and next steps
  • Close coordination with your obstetric care

Frequently asked questions

A maternal-fetal medicine subspecialist is an obstetrician with extra training in diagnosing and managing complex pregnancies and fetal conditions. Dr. Anwari is FMF-certified and trained in the UK, Germany and Spain.

The detailed anomaly scan is usually performed between 18 and 22 weeks, with the NT scan and first-trimester screening between 11 and 14 weeks.

When performed by an experienced specialist, both are very safe with a low risk of complications. They are only recommended when the information they provide is clinically important, and everything is explained beforehand.
